April 24-26th/ Lookout Mountain West KOA HOST – Little Dutch/BluegrassRUs
THEME - IRON
Bluegrass was kind enough to write this up since we were not able to make this campout.
We had a BLAST! There were 3 official rigs from CampTN...5 adults, 2 children, 1 dog, 2 cats. One additional rig from TN Dutch Oven...2 adults, 1 dog. Several newly found friends from north and south. AND lots of cast iron (Gus) .
The weather was perfect. Since Steve or Gus weren't there we had no rain or snow. Just beautiful sunshine and cool breezes. The locals stood round and fanned us in the heat of the day and brought us fresh squeezed lemonade. Okay, maybe not that part.
The festival was really cool. It was extremely crowded and we know it got up to 91 at one point in the day. Dennis and Timmy took their instruments into the crowd . So we parked at the end of town farthest from the foundry. Here we go with the upright bass, a mandolin, and guitar through 60,000+ people to work our way to the other end of town. Imagine my amazement to know that he plans to buy cast iron too. How will we carry it I ask? No prob...one of our newly found friends parked right outside the foundry. That made it extra easy to buy more stuff than planned since we had an easy way out.
We received a free Lodge bag, little skillet, handle cover, and the $3.99 skillet for the special deals of the day. It was just free, free, free...and we couldn't help but think of how Gus would kick himself to know he missed out on all the free stuff. So, we agreed to not rub it in or tell him how much cool cast iron things we got . One picture shows the guys toasting Gus with one of the new DOs (pictures to be posted later). We also had to actually buy some stuff too.

June 5-7/Piney (Land Between the Lakes) Host - Bluegrass R Us/ sites Dogwood loop
THEME - Pckin & Grining
We had 8 official rigs, 2 visiting rigs, and a cabin...27 adults, 11 children, 2 cats, several uninvited skunks, and at least 1 tick.
Leading up to the evening festivities, we were on setup watch. We spotted NissanTech rolling in and felt compelled to go help. After popping our popcorn and grabbing a few sodas, we went to their site to sit and supervise the setup. All seemed to go well since there were so many there to "help" Gus get everything done.
Friday night we had a great homemade ice cream social. Post those ice cream recipes guys! The ice cream was followed by bluegrass music courtesy of Timmy of FunnyFarm, Dennis of BluegrassRUs, and the Smiths who were visiting with us. For those who requested Valerie Smith's website for ordering CDs, here it is:
http://valeriesmithonline.com/ - The "Wash Away Your Troubles" CD is all gospel. The others are a mix of bluegrass music. You can also access her schedule if you want to see her group perform live. For anyone interested, they host a cruise in January. Info at http://www.bellbucklecruise.com/ .
Saturday was great weather. The kids did a great job on decorating their "camping buckets" and kites. We have quite a few artists in our midst.
The afternoon games were a blast! Yvonne, Susie, and Jake won the "Pick List" game and took home their very own packaged dill pickles. Steve and Kim won (think he was cheating) the "Pick It or Play It" game. I guess he isn't musical.
The potluck was incredible as usual. We all ate more than we needed and loved every minute of it.
Thanks to Camp, we were able to show the movie. We capped off the night by watching "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers"...a musical.
Thanks to all who participated. We really had fun spending time with you. We look forward to seeing you around the campfire.
