Steve was talking to his boss today – you could say her day had gone to the dogs…uh and skunks.

She is an RVer and has two large pups, which she takes camping with her in her motor home. Over Christmas she and her DH added a puppy to their family. It is unclear how big this puppy is or what kind it is. And I’m not sure what her other pups are - other than big.

Apparently she let the puppy out in the fenced in backyard and the other two out in the front yard. After she had put the pups out, she went to her desk, coffee in hand and looked out the window to see ALL three dogs in the front yard surrounding a SKUNK.

By the time she got to the door to calls the dogs in, the two big ones had been sprayed. When she reached the puppy that was still standing over the skunk, it had injured the skunk and had been sprayed. And while retrieving the pup from its new playmate the big dogs had run all over the house rubbing themselves on the carpet and furniture.

And to top it off, she ended up trapped inside her house because the injured skunk decided that her doorstep was the perfect spot to die while she was bathing the dogs. She ended up calling animal control. They put the skunk out of its misery and will be testing it for rabies.

All three got Jan’s special skunk treatment and she order skunk cleaning solution on the internet …A LOT of it to clean the house.

So after hearing this it sure puts an new spin on a bad day.

Must be the season. We too have had a recent skunk experience. Dennis's two labs decided to run off one VERY cold night when he was bringing them into the garage due to the cold temp. So here we are, he's out walking the road looking for them and I'm out in the driveway in my jams and winter coat. He finally had to come back for the truck to drive around and look for them. He FINALLY found them after about an hour and threw them in the back seat of the truck...not really paying much attention because he was so aggravated. This is his new (to him) truck with the nice CLOTH seats. He brought them back and was putting them in their boxes in the garage and the smell overwhelmed me. Needless to say, his truck, the garage, the dogs, the dog boxes, even Dennis himself were Skunked.

Odo-Ban helped a little, but didn't totally rid the smell. There are these Odor Absorbers at Wal-Mart that worked pretty well. They are gel filled and about the size of an old-fashioned smoke detector.

You are right...must be the season.

The doctor I work for has a barn. I went there the other day to get my wounded ATV and work on it. He said he caught a skunk in the animal trap that's in the barn. Every time he got near it to free it, it would turn its hiney toward him.

So, he decided (with no other ideas) to just leave the skunk alone. After 10 days in the trap, with no food or water, it was still alive. But, it wasn't as spunky, and it let Dr. Myers release it, and it wandered away.

Sounds like that skunk had been bred with a camel.
